The Crucified is a small add-on, which should give
your Mordheim or Warhammer Fantasy Battle-games more atmosphere.
This small article should only give you an idea, about how easy
it is to build your own small terrain-pieces with little effort.
All you'll need are some parts from various model-sprues, balsa
wood, glue, a cutting knife, a small hobby file, sand and some
paint.
Working time: 2 - 3 hours
First
of all you need some pieces from the plastic sprues: parts for
a Skeleton from the Skeleton-sprue. If you don't have a skeleton-sprue,
ask a friend who plays Undead, if he will give you the parts for
the Skeleton. You could also use the parts of an empire militiaman,
or an elf or whatever... You will also need some sticks of balsa-wood,
one 2", the other one 3" in length. Attach the 2"
stick in the upper third of the 3" stick to form a cross.
You will have to cut a notch in both sticks at the joint so that
they fit into each other. A base for the Cross will also be needed.
I used a round GW-base, but you can also use some cork or a thick
piece of cardboard too. For more detail I also added a Rat from
the Fantasy Swarm-sprue and the Chaos Sign from the Chaos-Warrior
Sprue.
After
gluing the both sticks of balsawood together, carefully attach
the skeleton and (if you have one at hand) the chaos sign to the
cross. To bring the limbs into correct position, you will have
to cut them with the hobby knife. The next step is to attach the
cross with the skeleton to the base.
You
can now add some minor details like the Rat or the arrows which
stick in the torso of the skeleton. When finished with the details,
mix some paint with sand and paint it to the base to give it structure
(you could also simply glue some sand to the . After the structure-paint
is dry, undercoat the whole modell with black or white paint.
Then you have simply to wait until the undercoat is dry.
Now you can paint the model. If you have undercoated
with black, you only need to drybrush the skeleton with skull
white or bleached bone. Paint the cross with scorched brown, ink
it with brown ink and drybrush it with snakebite-leather. The
Chaos Sign was simply drybrushed with beaten copper. The rat was
just painted with bestial brown and vermin-brown and inked with
brown ink. Finally, I added two additional skulls at to base of
the cross. (nc)
