My Esteemed Lord,

What follows is my report on the dark rumor that Grail Knights, of our fair Bretonnia, are being led by an Elvish Wizard.

My investigation has concluded that there is indeed a knight roaming Bretonnia, clad in Elven armour but riding a knight's warhorse. It has been established that he has been in the area during several cult uprisings or incursions of foul chaos beasts. He has reportedly, not taken any direct action in any skirmishes, but neither has he presented himself to any of the Dukes, nor attended any tournament to display his martial skills. Those who have reported seeing him always speak of his aquiline features and of flocks of birds that seem to follow him, arriving shortly before he makes an appearance and leaving soon after he has gone. This has led many villagers to the conclusion that he is some type of sorcerer or wizard.

I have spoken with Wood Elves, near Arden Forest, and they tell dark tales of an Elf exiled from Ulthuan. They later learned that he was fleeing persecution for a hideous crime, the nature of which they would not speak. He dwelt among the clan of Arden for nearly a century before an envoy from Ulthuan arrived and he fled into our kingdom to hide.
There is, among our records, an old story of an Elf that came to the Duke of Couronne to demand the right to prove himself as a Knight. He undertook the Errand of Knighthood and set off on a quest into the Grey Mountains. He was
never heard of again, and the story circulates much as a reminder that the
Elves lack the Bretonnians dedication to chivalry. There is no reason not to believe that the stories are of the same Elf, or that the one who leads the renegade Grail Knights is not also one and the same. For the dates of events are in accord and the physical description is much the same.

There are many rumors about this mysterious Elf that disturbs me. Not least of these are the rumors of birds that seem to be drawn to him. Wherever he sets camp, be it an inn or in the countryside, birds flock around him. Large proud eagles land on his arm and seem to whisper in his ear, while snow-white doves seem to be reluctantly drawn to him. These later he places in cages. At night he has been seen to tend to his horse while barn owls gather about the stall where she is kept. I have yet to discover the reason why Knights of Bretonnia follow this renegade Elf, but rest assured that I am continuing to pursue the truth of this matter and will report to you accordingly.

Your loyal servant:
